Cropping a photo in Gimp

Lesson Objective:

  • Crop a picture

The image above was cropped to create a the new image below with a more panoramic feel to it.

Directions:

Follow either the video instructions or the written instructions below.

  1. Locate a scenery image that could be cropped to create an image with a more panoramic feel to it.
    • If you do not have a file that you can uses check out the pictures at sxc.hu.
  2. Open the file in Gimp.
  3. Select the crop tool from the tool palette.
  4. Click and drag to create where you want to crop the image. Do not worry about being exact because you can adjust it after you let go of the mouse button.
  5. When you are satisfied with your selection press enter on the keyboard or click inside of the selection to crop the image.
  6. To keep your original image select File -> Save As... and give the file a new name.
